Computer Plans

I’m in a good financial situation right now. I’ll be able to pay off my $500 Time Warner cable bill in the coming weeks. That will leave me with regular monthly bills, which I intend to handle promptly. Now I can look at potential computer-related expenses.

I want to get back to my 3D Art pursuits. In coming weeks, there will be new versions of DAZ Studio Advanced and Poser, which are my main graphics programs. I also own Carrera, and there is a new version of Carrera on the way. The total price of all that software could easily top $500.

I was able to get Poser 8 free because I do Poser tutorials. I slacked off on my Poser tutorials. I need to do more tutorials, and see if I can get Smith Micro to give me a free copy of Poser Pro 2012.

I need to get a second monitor if I’m going to do tutorials and serious artwork. I need to replace the 25″ monitor that died. I need to decide if I’ll continue to use my ailing 24″ iMac for a main computer, or switch to the Mac mini, finally. If I switch to the Mac Mini, I’ll want two 24″ monitors to maximize my effectiveness.

I store a ton of data. I need to start buying 3 TB hard drives, just to handle my current data. I want extra hard drives to backup my data. Eventually I’ll look at getting a NAS enclosure, or build a PC to work as a server.

I want at least one good sound system for my computers. The iMac’s speakers are rather tinny, and the two cheap speaker systems I bought are barely adequate.

I’m not doing live shows any more. I don’t feel the need to buy any related equipment. I already have a good setup for making YouTube videos.

One day I want to buy an Apple notebook. Most likely I’ll go for a Macbook Pro. I want a portable computer that will handle anything I could do on my desktop.

I also want to put together a setup that will allow me to sit on my easy chair, get comfy, and do a Google+ Hangout! I suppose that could be accomplished with a wireless USB headset, and maybe a notebook computer?!
