Learn to Speak and Spell

Spelling and Grammar

I’m a writer. I learned decades ago that’s it’s important to learn proper spelling and grammar. Yes, at the same time, I take a few liberties as Artistic License. I learned that you want to project the best image of yourself when you use the written word. The same is true whether your words are in print, or on the Internet.

I’m delighted to see that computers really make it easy to spell properly. My browser has a built-in spell checker. Comic Life 2 lets me know if I misspell words. I just don’t see how anyone can ignore these tools and continually misspell their words. I’m still flabbergasted to see some blog entries that I can barely understand.

I can only guess that some people just don’t care to present themselves in the best possible light. And some of these people call me a bully if I try to help them.

I hate the word “Like!”

I swear some people who went to school in recent decades never learned proper speech, grammar and spelling. So many of these people apparently went to “Valley Girl School!”

So many people say things like: “I’m like, go to hell,” rather than “I said, Go to hell.”

It appears several generations of people misuse the word “Like!” The list includes George Clooney, and some celebrities from Leo Laporte’s network.

Did these people ever get any education? Or were they high school dropouts?!
