I’m a writer and artist. I’ve been using programs like Poser since 1999. I started using DAZ Studio by DAZ3D when it was first introduced. I go back and forth between DAZ Studio and Poser. Here is DAZ’s link. Here is the Poser link.

Poser has had many different owners in recent years. DAZ3D has been a major supplier of Poser content since its beginnings in 1999. Over recent years, DAZ3D has bought many 3D art software titles. Here is a link of their offerings.

I’ve noticed that DAZ3D has fallen behind on their support for Macintosh computers. First, the oldest product installers wouldn’t work because Apple no longer supported the “classic emulation.” Apple abandoned support for Rosetta, and that disabled most of DAZ3D’s product installers. I contacted DAZ3D directly, and received absolutely no assurances that the problems would be fixed.

Now let’s go through the inventory of the software packages that DAZ3D owns, and see how bad the Macintosh issue really is.

Bryce, not currently compatible with OSX Lion

Carrara 8, not currently compatible with OSX Lion

DAZ Studio Advanced, not stable with OSX Lion

Hexagon 2.5 is an abandoned software title, and not currently compatible with OSX Lion

DAZ3D had been one of my favorite companies for over a decade. I’d had some personal relationships with Dan Farr, co-founder of DAZ3D, etc. But DAZ’s failure to support Macintosh computers has caused me to boycott them.

To complicate the issue, I’ve encountered a flood of anti-Macintosh sentiments and opinions in various online Poser communities. Some of these Macintosh haters profess to be computer experts who have worked with computers for 30 years or so.

Some of their anti-Mac opinions include such statements as “Macs are over-priced. None of their software works with the Macs. People buy PCs if they want the work done.” So many of these statements are just plain ignorant, but they won’t listen to reason.

I’ve tried to explain my own computer-related experience which goes back over 30 years. I’ve suggested that maybe these people needed to update their own Macintosh knowledge. I’ve suggested that some companies needed to update their software once Apple abandoned the Power PC platform, and started using Intel CPUs. But they won’t listen to reason.

I gave up the argument, again. But I will vote with my wallet. I won’t support DAZ3D or any other company that won’t support Macintosh computers.
