I'm about to fire up my old Mac just to work on Carrara 6 Pro for some occasional 3D work. If there was a Lion-compatible version with decent reviews, I might shell out more money. I too have followed strange set of software updates over the past 15 years, and it's too bad they seem to have dead-ended. Is it finally time to buy a "real" Mac 3D application? I've always been slowed down by the cost and fear of the learning curve... Have you taken the leap to a new product?

I've had the same frustrations with DAZ! Is there any other affordable 3D software like DAZ that is actually fully compatible with Mac (especially Lion OS) ?

I agree completely. Carrara has been utter frustration for me for years. Not ONE single version, or update to a version as worked as would be expected. Buttons don't work, primitives act strangely, shaders disappear or change on an object, or just plain crashes. It goes on and on. I was so disappointed in version 8 that I got a refund. It's disgraceful the way they treat the Mac platform. WIth a million or so a month being sold, you'd think they'd wake up and smell the roses. No such luck, I'm afraid. These people can't seem to make a stable product. I can only imagine what it must me like on a PC.

I am looking for software to create rigged 3D sprites. I want to be able to use pre-built meshes like the ones available from Daz (I don't have time to be a 3D artist). I've considered using Daz content and rigging with Poser, or rigging with Carrara. I don't really know what other choices are out there. Do you know which of these two you would recommend for this purpose, or is there something else?
